Austin, We Love You!

January 18th, 2010

The Place: A converted studio in eastside Austin, Texas
The Setting: Torrential downpour.  40-days-and-40-nights-style, “batten down the hatches!” white squall.
The Room: a PACKED house. People crowded into coleman folding camping chairs (surprisingly comfortable!) and sitting in the aisles, on the floors…

A hush fills the room as the lights go down….  The movie plays… Applause as the credits roll!  And then we party!
I have to give some righteous props to Romeo & DeNice — they threw one heckufa party for us and really did B-GIRL right.  I’m so grateful for that, I know I don’t want to leave my house for my own movie in that kind of weather, and they filled a room for B-GIRL!

A quick aside to the audience, folks — so we’ve been touring this great nation with our lil’ movie and checking in and out of motels and paying the checked-baggage fee (WTF? am I right here?) and the one thing we’ve found as a constant, over and over, is that people love this movie.  Whether its 12 people in an audience or one hundred, the response has been amazing.  “Wow, it was so GOOD!” or “Thank you for making this movie” we hear from b-girls.
And let me tell you… that touches my heart.  It turns my insides to mush and gets me choked-up every time. That is why we do it.  You make a movie hoping that people like it, and when they do… it makes all the red-eye airplane flights, airport baggage bruises and stale breakfasts worth it.  More than that it makes the years you put into making the film worth it.  It’s two hours in the dark and it is the love of music and dance and movies, and it is worth it.

Much love, see you next week in San Francisco!
